SESSION 6: Biomaterials Derived Ceramics and Advanced Nanocomposites


Symposium Polymer derived ceramics

Biologically derived polymers and composites offer excellent opportunities in the designing of high performance solutions for biocompatibility, biodegradability and bioactivity of biomaterials.  Designing of biomaterials based on bioactive glasses and polymer/nanoparticle composites that combine bioactive and bioresorbable properties with controlled porous architecture, high porosity, adequate pore size and interconnectivity are attracting great attention.  Typically, inorganic (metal, ceramics, and glasses) and polymeric (synthetic and natural) materials have been used to mimic the extracellular matrix  with modified surfaces that have the ability to tailor smart, active, adaptive, signaling and functional activities.  Biomaterials derived ceramics and composites with tailored physical, biological and mechanical properties still remains a great challenge. 

The main focus of this session will be bring together eminent scientists and professors working in this multidisciplinary area of research – an amalgamation of experts from  materials science, biological sciences, medicine and engineering to understand biomaterial interactions with biological systems at the nano-scale in novel nanostructures.
