SESSION 21: Polymer Derived Ceramics and Advanced Nanocomposites

Symposium Polymer derived ceramics

Since pioneering works in the 1970s, the pyrolysis of preceramic polymers (PDC´s) as a chemical route for the preparation of ceramics has attracted considerable interest. In comparison to conventional processes, the major advantages of this precursor method are the low impurity level, the intrinsic homogeneity on an atomic level, comparatively low processing temperatures and the applicability of established polymer processing techniques. The possibility to tailor precursors in order to affect the microstructure as well as the chemical and the phase composition in the final ceramic material offers significant potential for the fabrication of novel ceramics with specific properties.

This session will provide an open forum for researchers from around the world to discuss recent achievements and advances in PDC technology. New developments, fundamental and novel aspects of processing methods, new applications as well as characterisation and evaluation of PDC materials are particularly emphasized.

Proposed Session Topics

  • Development and modification of precursors
